According to data released by Japan Petrochemical Industry Association on Jan 23, production of ethylene in December 2024 was at 467,600mt, down 1.9% on year. Operation rates of ethylene facilities were lower. Compared to the previous month, production increased by 9.1%. Turnaround of an ethylene facility was completed and the number of days in the month was higher. Total production in 2024 was at 4.98mil mt, down 6.3% on year. Turnaround took place at many facilities and operation rates were also adjusted due to sluggish demand. Operation rates of ethylene facilities that were in operation in December 2024 were at 78.7%, down 1.6 points on year and up 1.1 points on month. Turnaround of ethylene facilities took place at one company's one facility in November 2024. In December 2024 and December 2023, no turnaround took place.
