Indonesia starts operation of solar power facility at Balongan Refinery

PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), a subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned Pertamina, announced in February that it commenced operations of a 1.51 megawatt peak (MWp) solar power facility at the Balongan refinery in West Java.

This project was constructed in collaboration with Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), another subsidiary of Pertamina specializing in renewable energy development. The solar power plant will supply the necessary electricity for the refinery's operations. It is expected to generate 781 MWh annually, resulting in a reduction of approximately 600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The Pertamina Group is actively committed to promoting decarbonization. In addition to the Balongan refinery, KPI also operates solar power facilities at the Dumai refinery in Riau (3.77 MW), the Cilacap Refinery in Central Java (2.34 MW), and the Plaju refinery in South Sumatra (2.25 MW).
