India to start supplying LNG to Sri Lanka in 2025
India's state-owned Petronet LNG plans to commence supplying LNG to Sri Lanka in 2025. The company will load LNG into 50 containers per day for transportation to Sri Lanka. It is estimated that each container would be able to carry approximately 17mt of LNG. After regasification, the LNG will be used as fuel in two gas-fired power plants in Sri Lanka."
Therefore, a regasification facility is scheduled to be constructed in Colombo, a major city in the country. The use a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) is also being considered. Petronet LNG has imported LNG from countries such as Qatar and Australia. Petronet LNG receives LNG from these countries at terminals in Dahej in Gujarat state, and Kochi in Kerala state. There are plans to build a new LNG import terminal in Odisha state.
